Abstract of the lecture by Christian Marquardt:
Treatment of the golfer’s Yips
The golfer’s Yips only occurs in specific task related contexts. Yips develops in a vicious circle where normal practice aggravates the problems. However comparable movements can normally be executed perfectly well. These preserved movement competences can be exploited applying a behavioural treatment approach. Several critical factors have been identified which modulate the problem and are addressed during the training. It starts with simple and undisturbed movement contexts and then works back step by step to the intended movement. During this process the pathologically increased level of conscious movement control is re-directed to feed-forward processing as typical for automated movement execution.
